One of my duties while being in Japan is probably trying out every time of instant foods there is. I think instant food is sub par in North America. In japan, there are so many different type of instant food, and the word instant is much more defined here. Pretty much everything you buy in the freezer aisle can be prepared with ONE APPLIANCE. It looks like a microwave, it functions like a microwave but it does so much more. It’s their version of the oven, it does everything. The only con of this appliance is that it doesn’t rotate, the food just sits there while being heated.. .

This is today’s creation, it could be cooked in the aforementioned appliance, but, the picture made it look crispy so i pulled out the frying pan.

So far so good…

This is what happens when you try to flip a frozen piece of chinese/japanese pie with onions using chopsticks. It breaks in half.

This is what it ended up looking like in a bowl. It even came with sauce! Spicy / vinegar / soy sauce all in one ?

Then I tried making chicken… mind you this was pre-seasoned so I just have to fry it up. But it has been sitting in the fridge for a while so I was afraid that it’ll go bad so I stuck it in the freezer. This is what happens if you don’t thaw your meat!

I ended up with a mouth full of uncooked meat, I am extremely scared of uncooked meat. After learning all that in microbiology, I am extremely careful, much rather eat overcooked, wood tasting chicken than fleshy chicken. I spat it out of course…

Final product, chicken on top with mysterious pie on the bottom. It tasted okay, I finished 89% of it, the rest is sitting lovely in the kitchen as I procrastinate on the dishes and cleaning..

This house across the street does laundry EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!!

there’s a bookstore near my house, across from the 7-11 that I frequent. it is a used bookstore that sells manga and CDs. Yesterday on the way to the supermarket to buy beer and chips (essential food staples of the -need to pass time-) I spontaneously bought volume 15 – 17 of Lovely Complex. I am now only missing volume 1. I have the rest of the volumes in Chinese though. It’s kind of weird, but at least my collection or as soon will be complete?

The cover of volume 15, the mangaka deliberately drew Risa to look like Ema Fujisawa!!!! The actress that played Risa in the live-action version of the manga. The manga were extremely cheap and good quality, the stickers were still there! My taiwan version of the manga, around volume 6, the stickers stopped coming, I thought the mangaka started to cheap out and not include them, but actually the tw version started to be cheap and not include them.

I love the bookstore very much and today I bought Utada Hikaru’s 2nd album, Distance for only 500 yen!? And it was like newww! It’s kind of like a treasure hunt because there are so many random albums there. Distance is my favorite hikki album thus far.

I once read somewhere, perhaps on wikipedia? That the First Love album sold so much because of the super high quality glossy paper that they used to print the album booklet or something, holy crap, it Is super glossy?! I’ve never had such glossy booklet paper? I listened to the album on my laptop, I couldn’t tell the difference, hopefully when I go home and try it on my CD player the difference will be magnitudes.

I am enjoying the 2nd hand bookstore very much, I remember there being one near my university that sold hard to find biographies that we needed to write out papers with. But I dont remember going in once. I remembered buying it new at the bookstore then returning it … because I need 1 quote and the book was not at the library and $100. Sorry…

So are there used book stores near you?

I also realized that when people blog, it tend to be about one thing, such as, peppers, or cat-store? or MSG4. But I always write about whatever I want in a ramble about nothing, well my life, but yeah.

So far living on my own for 1 month had lead me to savor the large variety of instant, microwavable (although they have this awesome oven thingy that is kind of like a microwave) foods. But look!? I made chicken and stir-fry cabbage that my mom use to make, but hers tasted better, duh.

The chicken was pre-soaked in whatever, I just had to fry it in a pan. Although that may seem like nothing, it was a BIG deal to me. And I am getting better at not cutting my hand. Win-win.

My boss mama-san asked me to go play at the store, because they were making ume-shu. It’s plum wine? But it needs to be soaked for 6 months. Too bad I won’t get to taste it. Annnnd! WE also made the new sign for the store. I drew the chicken in the corner.

Finished product!

And i got this, but I dont know how to eat it..

500 CC! Upgrade size of beer here. Very important since I can’t sleep at night / in the morning because my cousin is talking on the phone / waking up super early to do laundry, maybe this will knock me out of tonight! Please do… I can’t take another night of 2 am and still chatting on the phone, SIGH!

A few days ago I was bored out of my mind sitting on my ass and going through withdrawl because House was downloading and there was nothing to watch but maybe Ugly Betty. Which I enjoy if I am high or drunk (kidding about this part).

Anyways, I decided that my trip here, is to experience Japanese youth, meaning I try to be like Japanese youth of my age, doing what they do? I was really getting no where until today, I bought my cell phone!? It was so much cheaper than I expected so I am happy, however I still don’t have a phone number / email address because I am under 20 and I need an adult to guarantee for me so tomorrow I’ll go ask my boss at my work place.

When I know my number / email feel free to flood me with emails, because apparently emailing on this thing is unlimited!

This is the Softbank 705Px made for PREPAID cellphones only, I bought it at Family Mart, some konbini store, I was pretty surprised since even SoftBank locations don’t carry it.

This phone by Japanese cell phone standards is pretty before millennium I feel, it only has a 2MB pixel camera, although TWO CAMERAS! wOAH for video phone, and TV and internet and what not. But, it’s screen is smaller than the usual ones I’ve seen but seriously it’s more high tech than anything I’ve seen in Vancouver.

Soon I’ll be on my way to emailing mad fast like Hachi (If you don’t know who Hachi is, shame on you). I think I’ll be getting the full youth experience lol…

Yes okay, other pix, my new favorite tshirt because people stare at me with it, I wonder why, I get a lot of nasty looks from older folks. TEHEHE.

This was peculiar…

I was really looking forward to today because yes, I get to talk to another human being! I went to Kyoto with Ui-san. From where I live, Takatsuki city, is very close to Kyoto. Taking the train is about 30 minutes or so, and that will take you to the center of Kyoto.

Although most of the pictures you see are of temples and what not, I mostly shopped today. For some reason, I like the shops in Kyoto more than in Osaka. Kyoto shops are more unique, although extremely expensive, the things they sell seem more special and unique.

Oh I dont think I ever mentioned how I met Ui-san. I met her randomly on the train, she’s studying to be a Chinese – Japanese translator. Her chinese is very good. Her friend whom I met today studies English, and was born in England. Multilingual FTW?

I know everyone must miss my face since I usually go by myself and no one can take pictures of me ~~

This is some bridge~~

Random building near the bridge~~

One strain is 1000 cranes, crazzzyyy~~ I think if you are bored and desperate enough you can make your own and ask it to be hung?

Sorry my face is weird~ but er bell shaking after you donate money and making wish!

A cool looking street, I feel compelled to post about. I love how my jeans look here ~!

More temple pictures

I really like this picture! The red lanterns and fence are pretty.

(Left to Right) Julie-san, Ui-san and ME~~!!!! I dont know why I’m not smiling. Too full from my burger?

We ate at a cafe named Very Berry. It’s really good. Well I had the burger today but if you go and have their waffle selection, it’s amazing~~!! The place was showing spongebob squarepants, because it’s an American themed? Or Hawaiian themed, I will definitely want to go back to eat lots and LOTs of waffles. *ddrrrooollss*

Julie-san and I

Did some shopping at Lowry’s Farm and they gave me this cute recyclable bag. Also bought a cute zip-up? like shirt which I found a tiny stain on when I came home. THE THING IS WHITE BTW! I tried washing it, hopefully it’ll come out, hopefully.

Just chilling at home, watching Ugly Betty, random Taiwanese dramas and HOUSE. For that one episode when House’s leg was fine, for some reason I was kind of bored..

My stomach medicine, due to lack of pepto-bismol, just bought what the pharmacist recommended. Seems generic enough. Tiny tiny tiny bottle.

For the past 2 days, I’ve had nothing but congee, and bread, at least I pulled out my wallet and went to the bakery to buy some what fresh bread, the bakery’s tiny and it’s called LONDO BELL, I think maybe it’s suppose to say London Bell. But they already printed their plastic bags.

So Jen said instant spaghetti should be good. It’s pretty cheap, a bag like this is about 138 yen and very fast to cook. I couldn’t find the mama brand.

Finished product, looks nothing like the picture eh, that’s what I thought. But it tastes alright, but MAMA brand is no Chef Boyardee.

This was one of the breads I had last night. I didnt know it was filled with custard, but it still tasted pretty good, else I would be throwing up all over the place now. Okay, this is an important message, so listen up closely, the cheeks and nose on this dude is BAKED ON! Like, it wasn’t made separately then stuck on! How did they get the burned color? Now this dessert item was probably designed towards children, suggesting it is okay to be eating peoples faces. My wit is lagging due to sickness. . . .

Ai Otsuka on July (HOLYCRAP JULY, it’s end of May now) SOUP.

I’ll try to start going outside soon … Got work tomorrow!
